If I use wordpress.com, will I be able to put up advertising on my blog?

Basically, i've been looking to create my own blog site so that I can put out my work. Once I increase traffic, I want to be able to put up advertising. Knowing the chances of actually making money through blogging, I am not deterred, so please help me out.
