Why are Californians such hypocrites when it comes to water and energy conservation?

Every1 is saying conservation is needed for any sort of sustainability. A movement towards renewable energy is going to transform this country, from recession back to world leader. The Obama administration is investion $150 billion over the next 10 years for a transition to a clean energy economy. The "Googleplex" in San Fran is investing hundreds of millions in renewable energy. And G.E. has set aside $1.4 billion annually for reasearch and development for clean energy technology :)!
